Don’t feel like writing syndrome

I have been trying to finish all the film scripts I have started writing for a while now. No matter how far I got into the stories and how great I thought they were, I couldn’t help getting the famous chronic writer’s block.

So I start thinking and thinking, and rewriting, but nothing seems to work for me. Do I get bored with it? Do I really know what should happen next? Am I very demanding with myself? Do my characters make sense? Or maybe I am just afraid to put my thoughts into words.

And that’s when the “don’t feel like writing syndrome” takes me over.

But there’s no chance of improvement until you start. So, even if it sounds contradictory, I took my self a time away from my stories, and now that I come back to them I realize that even if I am convinced they must be told, I don’t want to say those things right now. So don’t write just because, keep those stories safe and wait for the right moment to come for them.

To write and get fluent with it, you have to search for the most important thing you want to talk about. Even if you think it’s stupid, you can make it great. There will be always someone ready to listen to you.

Now I have found a new motivation to start writing again, and listening to music has been of great help for me when I get blocked. I hope to finish my script very soon so I can start with the next one.

He estado tratando de terminar todos los guiones cinematográficos que he comenzado a escribir por un tiempo. No importa lo lejos que me metí en las historias y lo geniales que pensaba que eran, no podía evitar el famoso bloqueo del escritor.

Así que me pongo a pensar y pensar, y volver a escribir, pero nada parece funcionar para mí. No será que esto me aburre? ¿Realmente sé lo que tiene que pasar a continuación? ¿Soy muy exigente conmigo misma? ¿Mis personajes tienen sentido? O tal vez sólo tengo miedo de poner mis pensamientos en palabras.

Y ahí es cuando el “síndrome de no tengo ganas de escribir” se apodera de mi.

Pero no hay ninguna posibilidad de mejorar hasta que empiece. Así que, aunque parezca contradictorio, me tomé un tiempo lejos de mis historias, y ahora que vuelvo a ellas me doy cuenta de que, aunque estoy convencida de que deben ser contadas, yo no quiero decir esas cosas ahora. Así que no escribas porque sí, guarda esas historias en un lugar seguro y espera el momento adecuado para ellas.

Para escribir y hacerlo con fluidez, tenes que buscar la cosa más importante de la que queres hablar. Incluso si pensas que es estúpida, vos podes hacerla genial. Siempre habrá alguien dispuesto a escucharte.

Ahora he encontrado una nueva motivación para empezar a escribir otra vez, y escuchar música ha sido de gran ayuda para mí cuando me bloqueo. Espero terminar muy pronto mi guion para poder empezar con el siguiente.

As its first full-length film “Veronica Videla’s passion” is in stage of pre production and we begin shooting in the province of Mendoza in 2010.

Pandito Films SRL es una productora cinematográfica situada en al provincia de Mendoza, Argentina dedicada a servicios de producción para quienes necesitan llegar al “oeste argentino” a filmar. Como opera prima, el largometraje “La pasión de Verónica Videla” se encuentra en etapa de pre producción y comenzamos el rodaje en la provincia de Mendoza en el 2010.

HSBC TV ADS!

These past weeks I’ve been working as 2nd AD in Buenos Aires for the production company Nunchaku Cine SRL in three TV ads for the HSBC bank. Directed by Nicolas Kasakoff and Roi Ricci, featuring Carla Pandolfi, Emiliano Pandelo and Esteban Lamothe. To make them we had to rely on the work of professional puppeteers and FX giving life to inanimate objects. The commercials intended for the Argentine market, will be launched on national TV before year’s end.

Estas últimas semanas estuve trabajando como segundo asistente de Direccion en la ciudad de Buenos Aires para la productora Nunchaku Cine SRL en tres comerciales para el banco HSBC. Dirigidos por Nicolas Kasakoff y Roi Ricci, están protagonizados por Carla Pandolfi, Emiliano Pandelo y Esteban Lamothe. Para realizarlos tuvimos que contar con el trabajo de titiriteros profesionales y efectos especiales dándole vida a objetos inanimados. Los comerciales destinados para el mercado Argentino, se lanzaran en la TV nacional a fin de año.

Reel Women Script competition

The Reel Women International Film Festival Script Competition is now open to all women writers. Organized by Diana Means (Founder/ Director), five finalists from feature-length and short formats will receive a script critique and passes to the annual Film Festival in March. Now going into its sixth year, the script competition late Deadline is on September 15, 2009. Check WAB for Online Script Submission and Category rules.

And remember… All scripts must be written by Women.

La Competencia de Guiones del Reel Women International Film Festival está abierta a todas las mujeres guionistas. Organizada por Diana Means (Fundadora/ Directora), cinco finalistas de los formatos de largometraje y cortos recibirán una crítica del guión y pases para el Festival anual de Cine en marzo. Ahora en su sexto año, el plazo de vencimiento para participar de la competencia de guiones es del 15 de septiembre del 2009. Visiten WAB para información sobre presentación online de guiones y normas de categoría.

BOOGIE, el aceitoso

Based on the character created by Roberto Fontanarrosa, my friend Marcelo Paez Cubells took the difficult task of finding a story to a comic written in closed episodes, with no continuity, writing the screenplay of “Boogie, el Aceitoso”. A film aimed at teen and adult audience with a violent, sexist and sadistic character. The animated feature was presented at the Annecy Animation Festival in France after winning the 6th place in the Zagreb Film Festival in Croatia. Produced by Illusion Studios and directed by Gustavo Cova, featuring the voices of Pablo Echarri and Nancy Dupláa. Full Dimensional Entertainment has developed a 3D version of the film and its release date in Argentina is October 1st.

Basado en el personaje creado por Roberto Fontanarrosa, mi amigo Marcelo Paez Cubells se tomo la difícil tarea de encontrarle una historia a un comic escrito en episodios cerrados, que no tienen continuidad, escribiendo el guion cinematográfico de “Boogie, el Aceitoso”. Una película dirigida al público adolecente y adulto con un personaje violento, machista y sádico. El largometraje animado fue presentado en el Festival de Animación de Annecy, en Francia luego de haber obtenido el 6to puesto en el Festival de cine de Zagreb en Croacia. Producida por Illusion Studios y dirigida por Gustavo Cova, cuenta con las voces de Pablo Echarri y Nancy Dupláa. Full Dimensional Entertainment ha desarrollado la versión 3D de la película y su fecha de estreno en la Argentina es el 1 de octubre.

Martini shot for First Mission!

I survived the rain, mud, cold, wind, fog and fire of First Mission… is the phrase stamped on the T-shirt that was given to us at the wrap party after the last day of shooting in Iguazu. It was a challenging experience where I had the opportunity to meet interesting people and have a lot of fun with my coworkers. I’m sure that all the effort was worthwhile and that it will be a movie to talk about. The material, which will be edited in Holland and will hold a version for Theater and another extended for TV, was produced by IDTV Film and counted with Dos Medidas SRL services in Argentina. The expected release date will be around March 2010.

Sobreviví la lluvia, el barro, el frio, el viento, la neblina y el fuego de First Mission… es la frase inscripta en la camiseta que se nos entrego en la fiesta de fin de rodaje después de la última jornada de trabajo en Iguazú. Fue una experiencia desafiante en donde tuve la oportunidad de conocer personas muy interesantes y divertirme mucho con mis compañeros de trabajo. Estoy segura que todo el esfuerzo valió la pena y será una película que dará de que hablar. El material, que será editado en Holanda y del cual se realizaran una versión para el cine y otra extendida para la TV, fue producido por IDTV Film y cuenta con los servicios de Dos Medidas SRL en la Argentina. La fecha tentativa para el estreno es alrededor de marzo del 2010.

Marcos Efron’s remake of the 70’s classic “And Soon the Darkness” is hitting hard on every news board as its release comes closer.  I have linked some news about this movie in which I worked and starring Amber Heard, Odette Yustman  and Karl Urban, among others.

El remake de Marcos Efron del clasico de los 70’s “And Soon the Darkness” esta apareciendo en todos los paneles de noticias a medida que su lanzamiento cada vez esta mas cerca. Nagelaten aka Remains

I’ve been working on the subtitles translation for the short film “Nagelaten” aka Remains, directed by my friend Aniëlle Webster. The story is set in Netherlands and spoken in dutch, so I translated it from English to Spanish. Is about a stressed out careerist who is forced to reconsider the way he remembers his past when he inherits his fathers old family car. Starring Barry Atsma, Guus Dam, Joris Ebbers and Roman Lodeizen.

He estado trabajando en la traducción de subtítulos para el cortometraje “Nagelaten“, dirigido por mi amiga Aniëlle Webster. La historia transcurre en los Países Bajos y esta hablada en holandés, así que la traduje de inglés a español. Trata de un estresado carrerista que es forzado a reconsiderar la manera en la que él recuerda su pasado cuando hereda el viejo auto de su  padre.  Protagonizada por Barry Atsma, Guus Dam, Joris Ebbers y Roman Lodeizen.

Shooting in the Jungle! (First Mission 2009)

After four weeks we are finally half way of the shooting of “First Mission”, a drama produced by IDTV film and coproduced by broadcaster NCRV. Written by Barbara Jurgens and directed by Boris Paval Conen, the story takes place in the Iguazu Jungle, in Argentina and Paraguay. Dutch, English, Spanish and Guarani are the four languages spoken in the film, and I have the task of being the translator and dialogue coach. Anniek Pheifer plays the leading role, Tygo Gernandt and Mark Rietman complete the Dutch cast. Eugenia Lencinas, Ismael Santillan, Leonardo Ramirez, Héctor Bordoni, Victor Hugo Carrizo, Matías Desiderio, Cristina Murta and Javier Moreira (on his first role) are part of the local cast.

The majority of the film is being shot in MBORORE, an Indian reserve in the town of Puerto Iguazu, Argentina, where the feature film “The Mission” starring Robert De Niro, Jeremy Irons, Aidan Quinn and Liam Neeson was shot 23 years ago. Some of our extras also played on this film directed by Roland Joffe, who is now shooting his new film “There be dragons” in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where my sister, the actress Dolores Reynals plays Carmen Escrivá.

Después de cuatro semanas hemos llegado a la mitad del rodaje de “First Mission“, un drama producido por IDTV film y coproducido por la broadcaster NCRV. Escrito por Barbara Jurgens y dirigido por Boris Paval Conen, la historia tiene como locación la selva de Iguazú en Argentina y Paraguay. Mi función en la película es la de traductora y coach de dialogo debido a que se hablan cuatro idiomas a lo largo del filme: Holandés, Ingles, Español y Guaraní. El largometraje cuenta con las actuaciones de Anniek Pheifer en el papel protagónico, Tygo Gernandt y Mark Rietman completando el elenco Holandés. El elenco local cuenta con las actuaciones de Eugenia Lencinas, Ismael Santillan, Leonardo Ramirez, Héctor Bordoni, Victor Hugo Carrizo, Matías Desiderio, Cristina Murta y Javier Moreira en su primer papel.

La mayor parte de la película se está rodando en MBORORE, una reserva indígena en la ciudad de Puerto Iguazú, Argentina, donde 23 años atarás se filmo el aclamado largometraje “La Misión” protagonizado por Robert De Niro, Jeremy Irons, Aidan Quinn y Liam Neeson. Algunos de nuestros extras también participaron de este filme dirigido por Roland Joffe, quien actualmente se encuentra rodando “There be dragons” en Buenos Aires, Argentina, y en el cual mi hermana, la actriz Dolores Reynals interpreta a Carmen Escrivá.
