The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition has received a record 7,197 entries for 2012 from 66 countries, and the only screenplay submitted from Argentina is mine!

14th HOLLYWOOD PITCH FESTIVAL

From July 31 to August 1, 2010 in the very heart of Hollywood, California is the 14th Annual HOLLYWOOD PITCH FESTIVAL. Sponsored by Fade In Magazine, the Hollywood Pitch Festival brings together more than 200 major film and TV industry players, including studio, development, and creative executives, as well as producers, casting directors, agents, and managers. Emerging filmmakers, screenwriters, novelists and on-camera talent attend the Pitch Fest to take one-on-one, seven-minute-long meetings to make vital industry connections and directly present screenplays, books, ideas, and more, to the Pitch Fest’s illustrious roster of decision-makers. While the Pitch Fest schedule is entirely dedicated to pitch meetings, this year’s event also includes one complimentary pitch class to help participants hone their presentations, as well as the opportunity to network at a cocktail party.

The New York Times hails the Pitch Fest as the industry’s “answer to speed dating,” and adds that it offers “a rare chance to breach the barricades that bar the door to Hollywood; many of the companies involved – UTA, CAA, WME, ICM, Paramount, HBO, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, etc. – normally refuse to accept unsolicited ideas or scripts.” Previous participants have had tremendous success, with over 300 gaining agency and management representation and more than 100 screenplays sold and optioned, including BORN TO SHOP (Fox), THE MEDDLERS (Warner Bros.), DOGGY STYLE (Silver Lion Pictures), CROSSING THE LINE (Trancas Films), and IF ONLY (ABC).

El secreto de sus ojos won the Oscar

On Sunday 7 March at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles “The secret of their eyes” (Argentina) competed for the Academy Award for best foreign film against “The Empty Nest” (Peru), “Ajami” (Israel), “A prophet” (France) and “The white ribbon” (Germany).

Finally the film’s director, Juan Jose Campanella, took the stage together with Guillermo Francella and producers to receive the prize from the hands of Pedro Almodovar and Quentin Tarantino.

“The secret of their eyes“, starring Ricardo Darin, Soledad Villamil, Pablo Rago, Javier Godino and Guillermo Francella, is based on the novel “The question of their eyes” by Eduardo Sacheri, which tells the story of a judicial employee who retires and begins writing a novel about a crime of which he witnessed in 1974.

This is Argentina’s second film to win the Oscar. In 1985 won “The Official Story” by Luis Puenzo.

Congratulations to Juan Jose Campanella, the whole cast and crew for the 2010 Academy Award for Best Foreign Film.

El domingo 7 de marzo en el Teatro Kodak de Los Angeles “El secreto de sus ojos” (Argentina) competía por el Oscar de la Academia a la mejor película extranjera contra las cintas “La teta asustada” (Perú), “Ajami” (Israel), “Un profeta” (Francia) y “La cinta blanca“(Alemania).

Finalmente el director del filme, Juan José Campanella, subió al escenario junto a Guillermo Francella y los productores para recibir el premio de las manos de Pedro Almodóvar y de Quentin Tarantino.

“El secreto de sus ojos“, protagonizada por Ricardo Darin, Soledad Villamil, Pablo Rago, Javier Godino y Guillermo Francella, se basa en la novela “La pregunta de sus ojos” de Eduardo Sacheri, que cuenta la historia de un empleado judicial que se jubila y comienza a escribir una novela sobre un crimen del cual fue testigo en 1974.

Esta es la segunda película argentina en ganar el Oscar. En 1985 lo obtuvo “La historia oficial“, de Luis Puenzo.

Felicitaciones a Juan José Campanella, a todo el equipo y a los actores por el Premio Oscar 2010 a la Mejor Película Extranjera.

Reel Women Script competition

The Reel Women International Film Festival Script Competition is now open to all women writers. Organized by Diana Means (Founder/ Director), five finalists from feature-length and short formats will receive a script critique and passes to the annual Film Festival in March. Now going into its sixth year, the script competition late Deadline is on September 15, 2009. Check WAB for Online Script Submission and Category rules.

And remember… All scripts must be written by Women.

La Competencia de Guiones del Reel Women International Film Festival está abierta a todas las mujeres guionistas. Organizada por Diana Means (Fundadora/ Directora), cinco finalistas de los formatos de largometraje y cortos recibirán una crítica del guión y pases para el Festival anual de Cine en marzo. Ahora en su sexto año, el plazo de vencimiento para participar de la competencia de guiones es del 15 de septiembre del 2009. Visiten WAB para información sobre presentación online de guiones y normas de categoría.

Y recuerden … Todos los guiones deben ser escritos por mujeres.

 

BAFICI’s 11th edition

Today starts the 11th edition of the BAFICI (Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente) organized by the Department of Culture of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires.
This year the edition 2009 will be inaugurated buy the award winner film “Gigante”, of the Argentine filmmaker Adrián Biniez, and not only will participate eighteen local movies presented as world premiere, but also will be added a section called Baficito dedicated to the infantile public.
The festival will count with special activities and the visit of international Filmmakers and personalities of the Industry.
The nine screens where more than 300 films will be projected until April 5 are: the Alianza Francesa, Arteplex Duplex Caballito, Atlas Santa fe, Cine al aire libre (Plaza San Martín de Tours), Espacio BAFICI, Hoyts Abasto, Malba Cine, Teatro 25 de Mayo and Teatro Gral. San MARTIN.

Hoy comienza la undécima edición del BAFICI (Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente) organizado por el Ministerio de Cultura del Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.
Este año la película que inaugurará la edición 2009 será la premiada “Gigante”, del realizador argentino, Adrián Biniez y no solo participaran dieciocho películas locales que se presentarán como estreno mundial, sino que también se añadirá una sección llamada Baficito dedicada al público infantil.
El festival contara con actividades especiales y la visita de Realizadores internacionales y personalidades de la Industria.
Las nueve sedes en las que se proyectaran más de 300 realizaciones hasta el 5 de Abril son: la Alianza Francesa, Arteplex Duplex Caballito, Atlas Santa fe, Cine al aire libre (Plaza San Martín de Tours), Espacio BAFICI, Hoyts Abasto, Malba Cine, Teatro 25 de Mayo y el Teatro Gral. San MARTIN.

Screenplay Competition at DC Film Festival – an interesting concept / Competencia de guiones, un concepto interesante!

Today I visited the DC Shorts Film Festival premises again, this time to see a Screenplay Competition where  six screenplays were read live by its authors and actors performed the roles in the script. After seeing all the screenplays, the public is asked to vote via text message… the one that got the majority of votes received a prize in money to film the short and secured its participation in the 2009 edition of the DC Shorts Film Festival. This year the participants were: “The note” (drama), “Shiva” (comedy), “Two lines and a stick” (comedy), “Taco Mary” (comedy), “Geronimo’s last ride” (drama), “Last drag” (drama). The winner of the Screenplay Competition was Taco Mary written and directed by Mary Novak, the one I voted for! :}

Hoy visite las salas del DC Shorts Film Festival nuevamente, esta vez para ver una competencia de guiones donde seis guiones fueron leidos por sus autores mientras actores actuaban los roles del guion. Despues de ver todos los guiones, el publico debia votar por medio de mensajes de texto… el que obtenia la mayoria de votos recibia un premio en dinero para filmar el corto y tenia ademas la posibilidad de participar en la edicion 2009 del festival. Este año los participantes fueron: “The note” (drama), “Shiva” (comedia), “Two lines and a stick” (comedia), “Taco Mary” (comedia), “Geronimo’s last ride” (drama), “Last drag” (drama). “Testigos” at the Latin American Film Festival of San Rafael 2005 among many other acknowledgments

The documentary “Testigos” was chosen to participate in the 2005 Latin American Film Festival of San Rafael directed by Luis Mauleon (interview 1, interview 2) and selected to be part of the short films projected on September 12 at the 2006 Argentina International Book Fair (Feria Internacional del Libro 2006) and the Incontro internazionale letteraria di scrittori, Università degli Studi di Udine (2006). I am so happy for Claudia and all the team!

El documental “Testigos” fue seleccionado para la competencia en el Festival latinoamericano de san Rafael (2005) dirigido por Luis Mauleon (entrevista 1, entrevista 2). Tambien fue selecionado para la proyeccion el 12 de septiembre por Cultura de la Nacion Argentina en la Feria internacional del libro (2006) y en el encuentro internacional de escritores literarios (2006) en Italia por la universidad de Udine. Estoy muy contenta por Claudia y todo el equipo!

Testigos (Witnesses) was selected for the Mar del Plata Film Festival 2005

“Testigos” by Claudia Galech has been selected to participate in the 20th Mar del Plata Film Festival for the showcase “La mirada del interior” (The look from the interior of the country”). The festival starts on March 10 and lasts for 10 days.
[The Mar del Plata International Film Festival is one of the most prestigious competitive festivals in South America. Held in Mar del Plata, Argentina, during the month of March, the festival average is 150,000 spectators. Producers, exhibitors, distributors and journalists from all over the world meet there, contributing to the global promotion of the event and the films. “Testigos” de Claudia Galech ha sido seleccionado para participar del XX Festival de Cine de Mar del Plata en la categoría “La mirada del interior”. El festival comienza el 10 de Marzo y dura 10 dias.
[El Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata es uno de los festivales mas competitivos y prestigiosos de Sudamerica. Realizado en Mar del Plata, Argentina, en el mes de marzo, el promedio del festival es de 150,000 espectadores. Productores, exhibidores, distribuidores y periodistas de todo el mundo se encuentran aquí, contribuyendo a la promocion global del evento y las peliculas. Es un festival de “Categoria A” reconocido por la FIAPF] De Wikipedia.

Documentary: Testigos (2004) by Claudia Galech

Written by Nestor De Monte and Directed by Claudia Galech, “Testigos” is a documentary about how the construction of the railroad in the 20s in Argentina modified the way people from small towns lived and about the last train that departed from General Alvear, Mendoza in 1977. The script was awarded by the Subsecretaria de Cultura in Mendoza and this allowed the short film to be shot. I was the Art Director for this documentary.

Escrito por Nestor De Monte y dirigido por Claudia Galech, “Testigos” es un documental sobre como la construccion del ferrocarril en los años 20 en la Argentina modifico la forma de vida de las personas de pueblos pequeños y, sobre la partida del ultimo tren desde General Alvear, Mendoza en 1977. El guion gano el concurso de la Subsecretaria de Cultura de Mendoza y esto nos permitió realizar el cortometraje. Yo fui la Directora de Arte en este Documental.
