2ND ARGENTINE FILM FESTIVAL IN LONDON!

For all Londoners, don’t forget to check out the 2nd Argentine Film Festival, London (17th – 21st April 2013).This year’s selection programme brings out Argentine culture diversity. The festival opens with Argentine director Daniel Burman‘s romantic comedy “All In”. 10 features will be introduced by a short music film showcasing some of Argentina’s best new musical talent. There is also a new section, Nuevos Talentos, including 5 short films from Argentina’s young directors. Hope you enjoy it!

Para todos los londinenses, no se olviden de ver el 2 º Festival de Cine Argentino de Londres (del 17 al 21 de abril 2013). Este año el programa resalta la diversidad de la cultura argentina. El festival se abre con el director argentino Daniel Burman en su comedia romántica “La Suerte en tus manos”. 10 películas serán presentadas por un corto musical que muestra algunos de los mejores y nuevos talentos musicales de la Argentina. También hay una nueva sección de Nuevos Talentos, incluyendo 5 cortometrajes de jóvenes directores argentinos. Espero que lo disfruten!

Waste Land at the GreenFilmFest

On Sunday, at the GreenFilmFest (International environment Film Festival) I saw an excellent Academy Award nominee documentary, “Waste Land.”

It tells how Vik Muniz, the contemporary best-selling Brazilian artist in the U.S., returns home to take an emotional journey from Jardim Gramacho, the world’s largest garbage dump on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, to the heights of international art stardom. Vik works with the so-called “catadores”, collectors of recyclable materials, who live and work in the garbage and are transformed by the power of art.

Directed by Lucy Walker, Fernando Meirelles as executive producer and music by Moby.

A truly must see!

BAFICI 2011

The 13th edition of BAFICI, Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Film, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Government of the City of Buenos Aires, will be held between April 6 and 17 2011 screening more than 320 feature films, including 42 Argentines, and also about a hundred short films, half of them national.

The opening, on April 6, will be with “Vaquero” debut of actor Juan Minujín, who also stars with Pilar Gamboa and Leonardo Sbaraglia. The closure will be with the winner in Berlin, the Iranian “Nader and Simin, a separation” by Asghar Farhadi.

The International competition will include 19 titles, among which are two Argentinians: “El estudiante” Santiago Mitre, and “Yatasto” Hermes Paralluelo.

There will be outdoor screenings, concerts, round tables and conferences. Tickets are on sale online and at the Casa de la Cultura, Avenida de Mayo 575 PB.

Also from April 8 to 11 will take the eighth edition of Buenos Aires Lab (BAL), the laboratory of film projects that encourages the production of independent film in Latin America.

New Mexico International Film Festival

The New Mexico International Film Festival focuses on superior exhibition and customer service. Officially selected filmmakers will receive 50% of the box office gross, they will keep 100% of merchandise and will be reimbursed for travel, receive a paid hotel room and meals. This is a shorter festival, 4 days instead of the standard 7-10, to ensure every movie is worth seeing. They are eliminating awards, becoming an official selection is the prize. They believe filmmakers would rather earn $500.00 in ticket sales than receive a $20.00 trophy.

El New Mexico International Film Festival se centra en una exhibición superior y servicio al cliente. Los cineastas seleccionados oficialmente recibirán el 50% de la taquilla bruta, conservaran el 100% de las mercancías, se les reembolsara el viaje, recibirán una habitación de hotel y comidas. 14th HOLLYWOOD PITCH FESTIVAL

From July 31 to August 1, 2010 in the very heart of Hollywood, California is the 14th Annual HOLLYWOOD PITCH FESTIVAL. Sponsored by Fade In Magazine, the Hollywood Pitch Festival brings together more than 200 major film and TV industry players, including studio, development, and creative executives, as well as producers, casting directors, agents, and managers. Emerging filmmakers, screenwriters, novelists and on-camera talent attend the Pitch Fest to take one-on-one, seven-minute-long meetings to make vital industry connections and directly present screenplays, books, ideas, and more, to the Pitch Fest’s illustrious roster of decision-makers. While the Pitch Fest schedule is entirely dedicated to pitch meetings, this year’s event also includes one complimentary pitch class to help participants hone their presentations, as well as the opportunity to network at a cocktail party.

The New York Times hails the Pitch Fest as the industry’s “answer to speed dating,” and adds that it offers “a rare chance to breach the barricades that bar the door to Hollywood; many of the companies involved – UTA, CAA, WME, ICM, Paramount, HBO, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, etc. – normally refuse to accept unsolicited ideas or scripts.” Previous participants have had tremendous success, with over 300 gaining agency and management representation and more than 100 screenplays sold and optioned, including BORN TO SHOP (Fox), THE MEDDLERS (Warner Bros.), DOGGY STYLE (Silver Lion Pictures), CROSSING THE LINE (Trancas Films), and IF ONLY (ABC).

The Secretariat of Culture of the Province of San Juan calls to participate in the Official Competition Feature Documentary and Short Films (documentaries, fiction and animation) to be held during the 1st Documentary Film and Media Arts Festival San Juan 2010.

My dear friends and colleagues Andrea Puebla and Cristian Pellegrini are responsible for the general production and artistic direction of the Festival.

Registrations are open until 28th June inclusive.

La Subsecretaría de Cultura de la provincia de San Juan invita a participar de la Competencia Oficial de Largometrajes Documentales y Cortometrajes (documentales, ficción y animación) que se desarrollará durante el 1º Festival de Cine Documental y Artes Audiovisuales San Juan 2010.

Reel Women Script competition

The Reel Women International Film Festival Script Competition is now open to all women writers. Organized by Diana Means (Founder/ Director), five finalists from feature-length and short formats will receive a script critique and passes to the annual Film Festival in March. Now going into its sixth year, the script competition late Deadline is on September 15, 2009. Check WAB for Online Script Submission and Category rules.

And remember… All scripts must be written by Women.

La Competencia de Guiones del Reel Women International Film Festival está abierta a todas las mujeres guionistas. Organizada por Diana Means (Fundadora/ Directora), cinco finalistas de los formatos de largometraje y cortos recibirán una crítica del guión y pases para el Festival anual de Cine en marzo. Ahora en su sexto año, el plazo de vencimiento para participar de la competencia de guiones es del 15 de septiembre del 2009. Visiten WAB para información sobre presentación online de guiones y normas de categoría.

Y recuerden … Todos los guiones deben ser escritos por mujeres.
